About this Recipe

By: Fast Easy Bread

This braid is perfect for back to school or any school day. It is really easy and fast but more importantly, the kids love it. You can make a weeks worth of PB&J in just 50 minutes and it is homemade. It is so easy that the kids can even help or make it themselves. You will notice the images below, we had children prepare it and make it and they loved it.

Braid Filling

  • Crunchy or creamy peanut butter

  • Favorite flavor jelly or jam

It is very important that you use bread flour. Do not use all-purpose flour for this recipe. You can substitute almost any sweetener for the sugar such as honey or brown sugar at a 1:1 ratio. The Saf-Instant Premium Yeast and the Liquid Soy Lecithin can be purchased in the Homemade Bread Bundle or the Homemade Pizza Bundle

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and mix dry ingredients. (yeast is a dry ingredient)

Step 2

To avoid a mess, make a dimple in dry ingredients with tsp. Squeeze the lecithin into the bottom of the dimple about the size of a quarter. Add water slowly, add 3/4 cups and then the remaining 1/4 cup. Mix for 1 minute and check consistency. The dough mixer should be sticky and pull itself off bowl.

Step 3

Mix/knead in mixer on medium setting for 5 minutes or knead for 5 minutes by hand.

Step 4

Spray counter and hands with cooking spray and knead for a few seconds to form smooth ball.

Step 5

Roll dough into a 15-in. x 12-in. rectangle. Place on a greased cookie sheet.

Step 6

Spread peanut butter lengthwise down center third of rectangle, then add jelly on top of peanut butter.

Step 7

On each long side, cut 1-in.-wide strips about 2-1/2-in. into center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across filling.

Step 8

Pinch ends to seal and tuck under.

Step 9

Cover and let rise for 5 minutes then bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

Step 9

Cover and let rise for 5 minutes then bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

Step 9

Remove from oven and place on cooling rack or cutting board with 2 spatulas. Serve and enjoy!

People Who’ve Made This

“I’m no baker so if I can make this bread then anyone can do it. This is so fast and easy!”

Cory R.

I love making bread, but don’t like the time involved sometimes. This stuff is great. I can’t believe I can make delicious bread in under a hour. It is also so easy to use.
