About this Recipe
By: Fast Easy Bread
This original Fast Easy Bread recipe is one of our dinner favorites. The bread braid is a perfect crust for the taco insides. Try replacing taco night with this beauty, your family will be grateful that you did and you will be too because it is so fast and easy. We call this a main dish braid. There are lots of different filling you can put in the braids. This is a combo that we like.
- 2 cups white unbleached bread flour
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp Saf-Instant Premium Yeast
- 1 tsp Liquid Soy Lecithin
- 1 cups hot/warm water
4 oz of Cream Cheese
1/2 cup Salsa
1/2 Pound Seasoned Taco Meat cooked (ground turkey, beef or chicken)
1 can (15oz) of black beans (drained)
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
It is very important that you use bread flour if you want the crust to be fluffy and light. You can use all-purpose flour for this recipe but the crust will not be as light and airy if you do. The Saf-Instant Premium Yeast and the Liquid Soy Lecithin can be purchased in the Homemade Bread Bundle or the Homemade Pizza Bundle.
Be creative with your filling. This filling is great but try your favorite taco mixture.
Step by Step Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and mix dry ingredients. (yeast is a dry ingredient)
To avoid a mess, make 2 dimples in dry ingredients with tsp. Squeeze the lecithin into the bottom of the dimples about the size of a quarter. Add water slowly, add 3/4 cups and then the remaining 1/4 cup. Mix for 1 minute and check consistency. The dough mixer should be sticky and pull itself off bowl.
Mix/knead in mixer on medium setting for 5 minutes or knead for 5 minutes by hand.
Spray counter and hands with cooking spray and knead for a few seconds to form smooth ball.
Cut dough in half and form two loaves.
Roll dough into a 15-in. x 12-in. rectangle. Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Spread cream cheese lengthwise down center third of rectangle, salsa, then seasoned meat and black beans. Sprinkle with cheese.
On each long side, cut 1-in.-wide strips about 2-1/2-in. into center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across filling.
Pinch ends to seal and tuck under. Brush with olive oil and sprinkle with garlic salt. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes.
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
Remove from oven and place on cooling rack or cutting board with 2 spatulas.
