By: Fast Easy Bread
Bread braids are so easy but the finished product looks like it took all day to make. This is no exception. The cherry cheesecake bread braid is a sweet dessert that will tickle your taste buds.  Â
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups white unbleached bread flour
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 Tbsp Saf-Instant Premium Yeast
- 1 tsp Liquid Soy Lecithin
- 1 cups hot/warm water
Braid Filling
- 4 oz cream cheeseÂ
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar and
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 can of cherry pie filling
It is very important that you use bread flour. Do not use all-purpose flour for this recipe. You can substitute almost any sweetener for the sugar such as honey or brown sugar at a 1:1 ratio. The Saf-Instant Premium Yeast and the Liquid Soy Lecithin can be purchased in the Homemade Bread Bundle or the Homemade Pizza Bundle.Â
Filling: Mix the cream cheese with the brown sugar and vanilla. Â
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and mix dry ingredients. (yeast is a dry ingredient)
Step 2
To avoid a mess, make a dimple in dry ingredients with tsp. Squeeze the lecithin into the bottom of the dimple about the size of a quarter. Add water slowly, add 3/4 cups and then the remaining 1/4 cup. Mix for 1 minute and check consistency. The dough mixer should be sticky and pull itself off bowl.
Step 3
Mix/knead in mixer on medium setting for 5 minutes or knead for 5 minutes by hand.
Step 4
Spray counter and hands with cooking spray and knead for a few seconds to form smooth ball.
Step 5
Roll dough into a 15-in. x 12-in. rectangle. Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Step 6
Spread cream cheese mixture lengthwise down center third of rectangle, then add the cherry pie filling.
Step 7
On each long side, cut 1-in.-wide strips about 2-1/2-in. into center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across filling.
Step 8
Pinch ends to seal and tuck under. Coat with butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Step 9
Cover and let rise for 5 minutes then bake at 350 for 25 minutes.
Step 10
Remove from oven and place on cooling rack or cutting board with 2 spatulas. Serve and enjoy!
