About this Recipe

By: Fast Easy Bread

Bread braids are so easy but the finished product looks like it took all day to make. This is no exception. The recipe calls for jelly but you can use almost any jam or jelly  you want. Mix it up and see which one you like. One of our favorites is homemade raspberry jam (shown in image).

Ingredients

Braid Filling

  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • Favorite jelly or jam flavor

It is very important that you use bread flour. Do not use all-purpose flour for this recipe. You can substitute almost any sweetener for the sugar such as honey or brown sugar at a 1:1 ratio. The Saf-Instant Premium Yeast and the Liquid Soy Lecithin can be purchased in the Homemade Bread Bundle or the Homemade Pizza Bundle

Filling: You may want to mix up the cream cheese to soften it and make it easier to spread.

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and mix dry ingredients. (yeast is a dry ingredient)

Step 2

To avoid a mess, make 2 dimples in dry ingredients with tsp. Squeeze the lecithin into the bottom of the dimples about the size of a quarter. Add water slowly, add 3/4 cups and then the remaining 1/4 cup. Mix for 1 minute and check consistency. The dough mixer should be sticky and pull itself off bowl.

Step 3

Mix/knead in mixer on medium setting for 5 minutes or knead for 5 minutes by hand.

Step 4

Spray counter and hands with cooking spray and knead for a few seconds to form smooth ball.

Step 5
Roll dough into a 15-in. x 12-in. rectangle. Place on a greased cookie sheet.
Step 6

Spread cream cheese lengthwise down center third of rectangle, then add the jelly or jam.

Step 7

On each long side, cut 1-in.-wide strips about 2-1/2-in. into center. Starting at one end, fold alternating strips at an angle across filling.

Step 8

Pinch ends to seal and tuck under.  Coat with butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar.

Step 9

Cover and let rise for 5 minutes then bake at 350 for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove from oven and place on cooling rack or cutting board with 2 spatulas. Serve and enjoy!

I love making bread, but don’t like the time involved sometimes. This stuff is great. I can’t believe I can make delicious bread in under a hour. It is also so easy to use.
